Written in Blood: A dark and sensual, award winning, romantic suspense.

Lyndi Crisdean is assigned one of the hardest cases in her career as a defense attorney. A serial murder case. Investigating is Alek Trevian, the lead investigator for the district attorney, and a handsome and supremely dangerous man. Lyndi finds herself in over her head when she chooses desire for Alek over common sense. If they’re caught, Lyndi will lose everything she’s worked for. Circumstances beyond her control pull her toward Alek, for he turns out to be the only one who can help when threats start to mount against her.

Lyndi may be the key Alek needs to bring down a murderous cult running loose in his city. When her beach house is broken into and a man begins to tail Lyndi, Alek can’t help but reason Lyndi may be next on the cult’s hitlist. The question is, will he discover the identity of the cult, keep her safe, and still win the case against the serial killer she’s defending, all while losing a battle against the strong, untamable desire she alone ignites within him?

EXCERPT

Black hair framed his face and hung down just past his collar. Her fingers twitched at her side, gripping her purse tighter. What she wouldn’t give to find out if his hair was as soft as it looked under the pale lighting. With a quick shake of her head, she snapped out of her reverie. Coming here had been a mistake. Sin, like the man walking toward her, didn’t need another invitation to her front door.

Before she could change her mind, she turned away from him and headed toward the entrance. The door to freedom seemed much farther than she remembered. She reached out; her fingers touched smooth wood. A cool, fresh breeze brushed the flushed skin of her face, beckoning her. She didn’t make the night wait. She burst out onto the sidewalk, sucking in air to calm her raging pulse. What was wrong with her? For whatever reason, though, something about that man had told her to run and not look back.

Hair flitted across her face, and she pushed the stray locks away. Home was only fifteen minutes from here. Shouldering her purse once again, she turned and started in the direction of her apartment building.

“Miss.” A deep, smooth voice sounded from behind her.

Lyndi froze. Did she really want to look? Biting her lower lip, she glanced over her shoulder. Mr. Wickedly Handsome’s lips twitched in what she figured must have been his equivalent of a smile.

“Do we know each other?” she asked, turning to face him.

“Are you alone tonight?”

“Listen… I don’t know you, and I’m not going to answer that question, so have a good evening.”

When she tried to turn away, his hand caressed her upper arm. Gentle and confusing, the touch left her too mystified to protest when he stepped closer. Leaning down, he whispered against her mouth, “Trust me when I say, you know me.”

His warm breath brushed across her lips, sending a wave of heat to the pit of her stomach. Every muscle in her body wanted to move closer, wanted the distraction she knew that mouth could offer. But despite her earlier thoughts, losing herself in a man wasn’t something she could afford right now.

Steeling herself against the tingle of desire he created, Lyndi lifted her gaze to his shadowed eyes. “You’re wrong and must have mistaken me for someone else.”

A small smile curled along his lips; his fingers grazed along her jaw. Her breath caught in her throat, and she swallowed the whimper forming in her throat. “I know exactly who you are, Ms. Crisdean. You are unmistakable.”

I’m Elaina Lee, romance writer. Since given an assignment in the 6th grade to write a fantasy story, I knew writing was a passion I’d never be able to do without. From that moment on my imagination took flight. Over the years I’ve written everything from the Dark Ages to Science Fiction, all with romantic elements, of course ;-).

As a mother of two boys, a kindergartner and high schooler, life is never boring in my house! When I’m not keeping a little one out of trouble, or trying to keep my sanity as a boy migrates into a man, I write. I’m very fortunate to have met my remarkable husband who has supported and encouraged my dreams of being an author since the day we met.

Thanks for taking the time to learn about me!

Blog Tour-Origin by Emilia I. Rutigliano

Contemporary / Women’s Fiction
Date Published:February 14, 2014

Alexandra Kamin is everywoman. At 42, she has a loving family, terrific children, a great career with a superlative income, a gorgeous face with a terrific figure, and a loving boyfriend. Most impressive is that she is in complete control of every ambit of her life.

Where do you go when you are at the top?

ORIGIN takes you back to the beginning… the beginning of Alexandra’s life in America, the beginning of the truest of love affairs, and the beginning of an entrepreneurial life. Through a series of flashbacks and conversations, Alexandra explains every nuance that made this beautiful family a dynasty that you want to root for.

Schooling, work, child rearing, and family affairs are all under Alexandra’s Order are all accounted for as the years go by. GNO, love affairs and the truest of loyalties are best second time around.

Excerpt

“NIIIIICCCCEEEE!” Alexandra bellowed stepping into the “apartment.” This was really something.

“You’re impressed?” The svelte blonde laughed, allowing Alexandra to walk through and take it all in.

“Had I known it would be like this, I would have admitted myself into a psychiatric facility a long time ago!” Alex was making conversation. Her mind was too busy assessing the place.

She was standing in a two-story duplex. It was a “New” building, on the West side of New York City overlooking the Hudson River. The building was entirely made of glass. Inside the apartment, everything was appointed in tones and textures of white.

“It’s not too late you know.” The blonde answered, using exactly the same tone. “I have friends who run sanatoria and “well-centers” in Connecticut … and in California, by the surf. There’s one in Los Cabos too. They are all luxurious. Plenty of fancy things and gardens and pool-sides. I could make arrangements.”

“I’m soooo in!” Alexandra admitted. “Where do I sign up, Doc!? Do I lie on this couch?” She asked, pointing toward a white, tufted, leather couch. Alex was trying to analyze how someone was brilliant enough to design it. It was definitely modern, but it still had enough “old world” comfort that you could just lounge on it to read or watch TV. And this leather… it was just… soft, and supple and inviting. “Wait did we get a diagnosis on me already?”

“Well sure, didn’t your friends already decide that you are depressed and need to be cured? Why else would you be seeing a psychiatrist?” The blonde asked, laughing. She came into the sitting area, and sat down in one of the white lounge chairs.

“Right.” Alex agreed. She sat in the chair opposite her, although they were both facing the outside. The Hudson River was playing with the sunlight and the water was bouncing the rays in such a way that it looked like it was generating the sparkles. “So, uhm… how do we do this?”

“Cure you?” The blonde was laughing, and Alex smirked at her, rolling her eyes.

“Relax. This is for you Alexandra. There is no pattern. Want some water or iced tea or something?”

“Water would be great.” Alexandra said, though her mind was more into photographing this room.

The details were extraordinary. The room was “albino”. That seemed to be its strength. Someone specifically made it — not devoid of color, really — but purposefully white. It was rich in its whiteness. The walls, and there were many, although, technically, the whole place was “open”, were of different materials. Some walls were Venetian or marbleized stucco. Some were pure Carrera marble, with just the veining showing through. Some were sueded, and some had mother-of-pearl wall coverings. But everything was white. Not cream… but white. And nothing was in contrast with anything. The hard and soft surfaces all melded.

The ceiling-to-floor windows had no treatments. Large, ornate “boxes” that served as moldings (with mother-of-pearl textures) obviously held shades that could be let down by means of a remote control. There was one, enormous, Chihuly chandelier. It was white, too.

“Do all psychiatrists’ offices look like this?” Alexandra joked, sort of.

“No, actually. I’m trying a new experiment with you.” The good doctor said.

AUTHOR INTERVIEW

1. Who is your celeb crush?

You know, I’ve never really done the whole celeb crush thing. I’m different like that, I guess.

2. What qualities do you look for in a guy?

In a partner, I think I look for some of the same qualities that Reagan did – athletic, smart, funny, faithful – but that person needs to have passion too. Not just for me, but for life in general. Otherwise, what’s the whole point?

3. Do you think there is ever a good reason to be unfaithful to your partner?

I think this is a hard question to answer, because the human experience is so complex, and our dynamics so diverse. But what I’ve come to find in my own life is that I would much rather leave a relationship, no matter what the situation, then to cross into that unfaithful territory. But again, I think every experience is different and everyone has to decide what’s right for them in their situations.

4. What relationship advice can you give to readers?

Communicate with each other! Most of life’s difficulties can be solved if we would just communicate openly, honestly and calmly. And if the person you’re with doesn’t take your communication seriously, or as importantly as they should, then they aren’t the right one for you and it’s time to move on.

5. What message do you want to get across with The Perfect Boyfriend?

That life is hard and love isn’t always perfect, and sometimes our situations can get complicated. But that often times makes love even sweeter, and if we just give it a chance, we could find ourselves in a really beautiful romance.

Blog Tour- TRUE Blue by Susan Rae + Author Interview & Giveaway

TRUEblue-300dpi
Romantic Suspense
Date Published: May 16, 2014

Sometimes we must revisit the past to embrace our future.

Twenty-four years ago, the murder of a Chicago police officer changed Joey DeLuca’s life. He lost his best friend and first love, Meghan McConnell, when her mother whisked her out of town. Now, on the eve of another officer’s death, Meghan is back and about to step into his life again.

There is very little gray in Joey’s line of work as a Lt. Detective–it is either black or white, right or wrong. But Meghan’s insistence on finding answers to her father’s murder threatens those beliefs and throws his marriage to CPD Detective Andi, his career, and the entire DeLuca family in jeopardy when new revelations come to light.

Can Joey save his marriage, solve the murder, and keep his family together all at the same time?

The third book in the DeLuca Family Series, TRUE blue can also be enjoyed as a stand-alone novel.

AUTHOR INTERVIEW
1. Why did you decide to set your DeLuca Family series in Chicago?
I grew up in the far northwest suburbs of Chicago. My family and my husband’s family were originally from Chicago. When I decided to write heartbeats, the first book the series, I thought “What better place to set the novel?” Chicago is a fascinating city compiled of seventy-seven different neighborhoods that house the poorest of the poor to the richest of the rich and every socioeconomic class in between. The streets are bustling with commerce, culture, and yes, unfortunately, crime. From the serene beauty of Lake Michigan and the famous Chicago skyline to the tired apartment complexes of the inner city, Chicago is ripe for stories of personal triumph and despair.

2. Describe the relationship between Joey and Meghan.
Twenty-four years ago, Joey’s and Megan’s fathers were detectives and partners on the Chicago Police Department. Their families spent a lot of time together, but it wasn’t until the summer of Joey’s junior year that he suddenly saw Megan as more than just a family friend. But their budding summer romance was severed when Megan’s father was murdered and her mother whisked her out of town. Now Megan is back seeking Lieutenant Detective Joey DeLuca’s help in getting answers to her father’s murder. In doing so, both discover that the feelings they had for each other rise to the surface again—still very real and very raw.

3. What was the toughest scene to write in TRUE Blue? The easiest?
Hmmm, that’s a good question. I don’t remember a particularly difficult scene to write. Perhaps the toughest were the climactic scenes—both the murder/mystery climax and the sensual climactic scenes. J In the murder/mystery climactic scene, I feel it is very important not to cheat the reader out of some really tough, hard-hitting drama after they’ve read the entire book up to then. For the love scenes, it is equally important to get the emotion as well as the sex just right in a way that it not only makes sense with where the characters are emotionally in the book, but also as a way to move the story along. This was especially challenging in the love scenes of my married protagonists, Andi and Joey. As for the easiest scene? This isn’t going to seem like it makes sense, but I’m going to say the love scenes there, too, because it is so much fun writing them, even though they can be challenging.

4. Are you working on any other stories at the moment? Can you give us a sneak peek?
I’m currently working on a paranormal suspense novel—a time travel, set on the northeast coast of the United States. A slight departure from my current suspense novels, I’m looking forward to having fun with it. It’s in the very early stages, but briefly: Young girls are disappearing from Walnut Cove. With no evidence and no eyewitnesses, the police are stymied. Then, after a raucous party on the beach, the Chief of Police’s own daughter vanishes.

5. Do you hear from your readers often? What do they say? How can they get in touch with you?
Yes, I hear from my readers quite often and I must say that this is one of the things I love most about being an author. I love hearing from readers and that they “get” what I write. Mostly they say how much they enjoy my characters—that they seem very real and in the case of the DeLucas, almost like family. Readers like how each book in the series explores its own murder/mystery with its own hero and heroine, and yet I bring the extended DeLuca family back into each book so my readers don’t lose touch with them. Readers also like the way that I incorporate the settings in my novels: in the DeLuca series, both Chicago and its rural suburbs; in freefall, Wisconsin and Door County; and in TRUE blue, while solving the crime, Montana’s Glacier National Park. Readers can “Like” and contact via facebook: http://www.facebook.com/SusanRae.Books; http://www.facebook.com/SusanRae.author; or at my website http://www.susanrae.com.

6. What is your opinion on fanfiction? What about fanfiction of your own works?
This hasn’t seemed to be an issue with my works, although, in some ways, I am writing my own fan fiction. I never thought of heartbeats as being the first of a series until I realized I had created a whole family of characters and I wanted to know more about each one of them, so I created storylines for them and wrote two more books!

7. When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
When I was very young, I thought I wanted to be a doctor—a pediatrician to be exact. Later, I discovered drama and creative writing and I was hooked. On an interesting note, during a recent visit to my physician, we were talking about my work and she stated that she had wanted to be a writer when she was young. We were both somewhat amused at the flip-flop.

8. What do you like to do in your spare time?
I am an avid golfer, as well as an outdoor enthusiast. I like to bike, swim, and canoe, as well as travel around the country enjoying the many parks this nation has to offer.

9. What is in your purse?
I carry a very small purse because I don’t like to be weighed down, although more times than not it is difficult to close because I’ve overstuffed it. So what do I have in it? My wallet, a comb, my cell phone, reading glasses (yes, I’m that age!), Chapstick, a granola bar (in case I’m stranded somewhere, like on the expressway), two pens, and a very small notebook—you just never know when a spark of inspiration will strike. Oh, and a tube of lipstick, for when I’m feeling particularly vain…and some golf tees that didn’t make it back into the golf bag.

10. Are reindeer better than people?
Uh…no. Even though reindeer are magnificent creatures, people are infinitely more fascinating. If they weren’t, we authors would have nothing to write about!

Thank you for spending this time with me. To read more about my books and my writing, please visit me at http://www.susanrae.com

Susan Rae grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Columbia College, Missouri with an emphasis in creative writing. She penned her first melodrama in fifth grade for a Girl Scout Drama badge. Complete with hero, heroine, and dastardly villain, it wasn’t so different, really, than the romantic suspense she writes now.

“I love writing romantic suspense because it allows me to combine a sexy, passionate love story with a gritty suspense tale—in my opinion, the best of both worlds. It also allows me to express my appreciation for the outdoors in the settings that I recreate on the page.”

Freefall, Susan’s second novel, takes place in Wisconsin’s Kettle Moraine Forest and beautiful Door County. ICE blue returns to the busy streets of Chicago and the shores of Lake Michigan to continue the story of the DeLuca family which began in her award winning first novel, heartbeats. InTRUE blue, the third book in the DeLuca Family series, Susan was thrilled when it became apparent that her characters must take a trip to Montana’s majestic Glacier National Park.

When she is not sketching characters, you might find Susan on the golf course working on her handicap, or traveling around the country seeking out new settings for her novels with her husband and empty nest puppies, Ginger and Nikute.
