Title: Tasting Texas
Author: Kimmie Easley
Year of Publication: 2014
Genre: Romance, New Adult
Format: Ebook
Length: 63 pages
First Line: “Holy hell,” Beth mumbled under her breath as she slammed the file cabinet closed.

Summary: Beth Garrett spends every waking moment with the love of her life, The Long Branch Saloon. The popular southern bar is a much needed escape from the reality of living in a small Texas town.

Never one for drama, Beth swears off screwing around with men from her own backyard, and spends most of her nights alone. That is until fate has pity on her and sends the occasional handsome stranger through town.

That’s exactly what happens when Eric Alexander comes to Sommerville on business. After a long meeting, Eric ends up at The Long Branch to blow off some steam. With the help of Beth’s best friend Wren, the sexy New Yorker challenges her to a game of pool in exchange for an unforgettable Texas experience.

Just as Beth thinks she has Eric eating out of the palm of her hand, Wren decides to stir the pot. Now she has to decide if the reward will be worth the risk in this steamy novella, the first in The Tasting Series.

Review: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for a honest review.

I have been waiting to read Tasting Texas for a couple months so I was excited to finally get my hands on it. The latest work by Kimmie Easley did not disappoint!

In Tasting Texas, Beth is hard-working gal who has a barely existent sex life. However, when when the AC in her popular bar breaks down and a handsome stranger comes to town, it seems that things start to look up… but not in the way you will expect them to!

Beth is a woman after my own heart. She’s hardworking, doesn’t take crap from anyone and it is a total bonus that she is sexy. Beth is easily relatable.

Wren is my choice for book boyfriend. Wren plays an important part of Beth’s life, his actual role in the novella seems minimal. I rooted for him as I read. Eric, despite the hot sex, just seemed a little creepy.

Oh yes, the sex. There is steamy hot sex. There is some d/s undertones in one of the scenes. It isn’t heavy d/s, honestly. If that bothers you in the slightest, then just skip ahead since the d/s is not a theme of this novella. There’s also public/semi-public sex too. Everything is just really hot.

I thought some plots could have been expanded on. Even though this is a novella, I thought it some little things like more explanation and background on Wren’s girlfriend could have been packed in. The ending was a little abrupt for my taste, as well. Beth is in the middle, okay the end, of having sex and then BAM! Closing sentence. Would have preferred more of a wrap-up before ending the story.

This novella is a short read. You can finish it in an afternoon by the poolside or at the beach. A great summer read! Totally looking forward to the next book in the Tasting series.

Worst part: Abrupt ending.

Best part: Beth’s characterization + sex scenes.

Grade: B

Recommend For: A hot beach read! 🙂

Title: Wolf’s Heart
Authors: Cam Cassidy and Ruelle Channing
Genre: Paranormal Erotic

Wolfpack Delta gave Ryden Coulter’s life purpose after the attack that not only changed his life, but destroyed his only hope for happiness. While the woman he left behind is always on his mind, he knows that his new-found strength lies in the power of his wolf, not in his heart…or so he thinks.

Being born for the sole purpose of saving another’s life isn’t quite the way one imagines coming into the world, but Carlee O’Shannon knows no other reality. The one time she ever opened her heart, she lost it all. Vowing to never let another person hurt her that way again, she’s unprepared for Ryden to come back into her life.

Together again, out of necessity rather than desire, Ryden and Carlee will be forced to fight not only for their lives, but the lives of Ryden’s unit. Secrets and danger lurk beneath the surface, and it will take more than the strength of a lone wolf and the woman he loves to fight their way out.

Cam Cassidy

Cam Cassidy is an erotic romance author with a paranormal flare. She spent her life growing up in a small Ohio farming community. The lack of neighbors and companionship of mostly cows and horses in her youth left her plenty of time for her passion of reading to flourish.

As an adult, Cam is married and the mother of three ornery children who keep her on her toes. The cup of coffee in her hand is a trademark. She works full time in the medical field. In her spare time, she spends every minute reading and writing. Watching her children ride horses, dirt bikes with a notebook in hand to never miss jotting down that next all important story idea.

All of the “hard work” reading and writing sitting beside the fire drinking a glass of wine. Or was it between loads of laundry, recently paid off with her first publication.

Ruelle Channing

Ruelle Channing is a writer of Paranormal Romance. She grew up in a small North Carolina community with books as her best friend. Often as a child, she was scolded for propping up her book to read while she did her chores, even while her mother encouraged the interest. Her father was illiterate, but never let that keep him from learning. Most of the librarians at both her school and local library knew her by name as she was a frequent visitor there. After graduation from high school, Ruelle worked in a sewing factory. She married at age 21 and had the first of three daughters two years later. Her girls have also inherited the love of reading. As stay at home mom for 17 years, Ruelle still wondered what she wanted to be when she “grew up”. Having lived in books all her life, as an adult it has been her dream to create a world in which she would be proud to have others become entrance in. Her recent works include the Wolfpack Delta Series, which was written with friend and co-author, Cam Cassidy, and she has several other works in progress.

Excerpt
My mind is swirling with memories of last night. She came. She actually came here to see me. She let me hold her, touch her, kiss her, claim her. Lynae’s sweet scent assaults my senses. I need to feel her against my body. I reach out to find her, but my hand only lands on cold empty sheets. My eyes pop open, completely awake now.
“Lynae?” I call out.
I sit up in my bed. My empty bed. Looking around the room, I don’t see her, and her pants that I know were tossed on the floor next to mine are gone. Sunlight is filtering in through the blinds. I glance at the clock, noticing it’s after nine in the morning. Maybe she’s in the kitchen. I know how she likes her coffee first thing in the morning. Please, dear God, let her be in the fucking kitchen.
I toss my legs over the side of the bed and grab my shorts off the floor. Standing up, I stretch my arms over my head and make my way out into the living room. I don’t even have to look around to know she’s not here. I can’t feel her presence. I can always sense her. Instead of finding the one thing in this world that makes my life worth living, I find the one thing that I want to pummel into the ground, sitting on my couch.
“What the fuck are you doing here?” I growl.
Seth stands up. He looks like absolute shit, like he’s been sitting there all fucking night. “Listen, dude, I’m really sorry about everything.” Seth is holding is hands up. “But I need to ask you something.”
Lynae must have gotten up, seen asshat sitting here and left. She was obviously pissed at him yesterday, since she apparently ran away from him crying, according to Wade. This gives me even more reason to want to kick Seth’s ass the hell out of my apartment, garage and life. “I don’t have time for this shit. Get out.”
