REVIEW: Giving an Inch by Heidi Belleau & Amelia C. Gormley

Title: Giving an Inch
Author: Heidi Belleau & Amelia C. Gormley
Year of Publication: 2013
Genre: LGBT
Format: Ebook
Length: 46 pages
First Line: “James hated department stores.”

Summary: “School is back in session.”

History grad James Sheridan thinks his biggest problem in life is trying to find a suitable outfit for his upcoming Ph.D. candidacy exam. That is, until he accidentally texts a changing-room selfie meant for his fashionable sister to his ex, the domineering Professor Carson.

James and Carson haven’t seen each since James fled their power games two years ago. Back in his undergrad days, Carson was his Professor, and not just in the academic sense: a man of unusual tastes and extreme sexual demands, James had been happy to sate Carson’s savage appetites. Too happy, in fact. He never could trust himself not to let Carson push too far.

Now James is older and wiser, and sharing some seriously flirtatious vibes with a cute menswear rep. When Carson replies to James’s errant text, ready to pick up where they left off, James can’t help being drawn back into Carson’s control. It’s only when Carson suggests involving the salesman that James has to ask himself how far is too far, and whether he’s willing to go there with Carson again.

Review: I have a feeling that this is going to be a short review, but it was a short book so whatever.

Even though it isn’t labeled as such, GIVING AN INCH is for the kinky at heart. James and Carson used to be lovers. Carson was actually James’ professor. They had a BDSM relationship. Carson was the alpha dom and James was the submissive. They were into lots of stuff like spanking, caning, humiliation, exhibitionism and even having James make out or have sex with an anonymous guy while Carson watched from afar. But most of that was in the past and is described through Carson’s text messaged and James’ inner thoughts. Most because in this story Carson and James kind of get back together, or at least Carson still has some control over James and is able to manipulate him into having sex with one of the department store employees while Carson could hear everything because of the speaker phone.

I did enjoy this little short story. The sexual tension and sex is hot. I like the idea, although the story is just basically one long scene. Though I felt horrible for Satish being played. Carson never actually makes an appearance in the story. His dialogue is entirely through text messages and such. It’s strange that this is the first story written in the PROFESSOR’S RULE series, but chronologically it is second in the series. It shows too. A lot of needed back story is told.

Worst part: Probably my hard feelings for Satish.

Best part: Sex was hot.

Grade: B

Recommend For: Those kinky at heart.
