Seven years later, Carly reluctantly returns to Kentucky. Her daddy is dying of cancer and Colton is nothing like the boy she once loved and left. After her daddy passes, Carly must uproot her life in South Carolina and take control of Simon Coal Company, where she has no choice but face the pain of her past.
Can Carly keep her secrets buried deep beneath the black Kentucky coal and her heart safe from the fiery Colton Weston?
Everyone, say hello to Silla Webb, debut author of COVERED IN COAL.
1. Why did you want to write COVERED IN COAL?
I wanted to accomplish a dream that I never though imaginable. I’m a stay at home mom to 3 boys. I felt unsuccessful. It was pounded into my brain my entire life that I was a nobody if I wasn’t a somebody…with a title. Doctor, lawyer, teacher… I wanted to show my kids that you can dream, and make those dreams a reality if you stay focused and keep your heart and soul into your work.
2. How did you come up with the title?
My husband was at one time a coal miner, and when brainstorming the title, that’s what I kept imagining; him coming home, covered from head to toe in the coal soot. Carly’s life transitions from Hotel Mgr. to Coal Giant CEO, owning 5 coal mines over night…she is literally covered in coal, and digging up buried secrets!
3. What message would you like to get across with this novel?
1~Regardless of the hazards, the statistics and the gut wrenching new stories you see, coal mining is very real, and not one of us Americans could lead a normal everyday life without the hard work and sacrifice of these brave men and women.
2~No matter how we protect our hearts, there is always that one person who can unveil the vulnerable side of us all. That is the one person who owns your heart…it’s okay to love, just be care free and accepting.
4. Describe the relationship between Carly Jo and Colton.
Carly has never let go. She still harbors a ton of hurt, pain and heartache that Colton left her with. She also blames him for specific events in her life, although he didn’t have a direct hand in the deck of cards. She doesn’t know how to let go of the pain, but she wants to.
Colton has hidden secrets. A past that has brought him a ton of happiness, which is Carly’s reason for the heartache. He still loves Carly, and wants them to move forward together. He is confident that he can love Carly the way she deserves. But Carly just can’t get past the pain.
5. Which scene was the most difficult to write? The easiest?
Ahhh…Chapter 27 was by far the hardest…I wanted it to be HOT, steamy and full of passion and lust. I wanted the reader to feel the chemistry and love that Carly and Colton have together, when she finally lets him love her. I didn’t want it to be raunchy and nasty.
Chapter 33 was the easiest to write. I had Luke’s back story outlined and Carly’s heartache was already present throughout the story. Meshing the two together for their special scene worked wonderfully.
6. Who designed the cover?
I did…I hired a local Model who is also a photographer. Using her equipment, I shot the photo then designed it.
7. What was the last book you added to your TBR list on Goodreads?
Uncaged by Harper Sloan…finished it, loved it.
8. Name at least five items currently in your purse or bag.
Kindle, cell phone, cinnamon discs candies, wallet, and sunglasses.
9. Who do you think would win in a fight: a caveman or an astronaut?
