In Chemical Reaction, the sequel to Chemical Attraction, FBI Agent Joe Roberts and his fiancée, Dr. Madeline Pierce, must track down a rage-producing nano-drug before it devastates the nation.

Staying in Detroit with the FBI, Madeline works to develop an antidote from the confiscated journals. She clashes with the women from Joe’s past. In West Michigan, Joe hunts for the bio-weapon. With a history as a player, he’s worried his relationship with Madeline is at risk. Working apart, they attempt to focus on the threat.

Before Joe returns, agents are killed, Madeline is abducted, and the deadly nano-drug is put on the market. Without the journals, the mastermind needs Madeline to reproduce the drug.
While she plays a dangerous game of deceit, Joe struggles to put his fears of losing her aside to find the weapon first. Her life, their future, and the nation’s security are in jeopardy. Joe must now choose between his personal desire and his professional integrity. Can he live with the consequences?

Author Interview

Thank you for hosting me on my Chemical Reaction Book Tour. I’m happy to be with you today.

1. Are you currently reading any books?
I just bought Cold Days by Jim Butcher.

2. What books have influenced your life and your writing?

Ted Kaptchuk’s The Web That Has No Weaver expanded the narrow view I had of the Universe. Then, Stephen King’s On Writing changed my mindset for writing with this passage, “When you step away from the ‘write what you know’ rule, research becomes inevitable…remember that you are writing a novel not a research paper. The story comes first.” When I first started writing, my confidence had waivered at the daunting task of procedure and investigation. That changed when I focused back on the characters and storyline.

3. What do you do in your spare time?
I’ve retired from acupuncture and massage therapy, but I still teach holistic health classes at “Reflexions on the Riverfront” in Allegan, Michigan.

4. What kind of research did you do for CHEMICAL REACTION?
Having lived in Michigan for most of my life, I finally had the opportunity to share information about the Great Lakes and their waterways. Did you know that the U.S. Coast Guard plays a vital

role within all five of the Great Lakes? They specialize in operations of search and rescue, law enforcement, and maritime homeland security. Joe and the FBI tap into all of their services.

5. How long did it take to write CHEMICAL REACTION?
The researching and outlining took about three months with six months of writing. I continued to tweak and edit the story until the day I turned the copy into my publisher.

6. Which scene was the hardest to write?
At the end of the story, when important information comes to light, Joe and Madeline have an emotional scene. I rewrote the scene multiple ways until I matched Joe’s reaction to the news with his emotions ranging from anger, sorrow, and then compassion. Readers will have to let me know if I got it right.

7. Who designed your book covers?
Ravven designed the covers for Chemical Attraction and Chemical Reaction. Visit 48fourteen’s web page to see her other amazing book covers.

8. Do you have any projects in the works?
I’ve just finished tweaking the 3rd book in The Chemical Attraction Series, Their Rigid Rules. This romantic adventure about Joe’s sister Taylor and her now husband, Stuart, is the prequel to the first two. I wrote it years ago. Joe had stayed in my head until I gave him his own story with Chemical Attraction and Chemical Reaction. Although Joe is a secondary character in the prequel, he has an important role. On the surface, Joe’s a player. Deep down, he’s searching for

his soul mate, the one person who will love him for his faults, not in spite of them. His path becomes clearer in the prequel.

9. Do you have any little rituals for when you’re writing, or anything that helps you concentrate?
Music breaks my concentration because I sing. However, I focus the best when I have a baseball game on the TV. The slow rhythm of the game is hypnotic. Go Tigers! I also brush my teeth before I start writing. I know it’s odd, but it’s effective.
